Sea Scouting at Rush Creek
Sea Scout Ship 1000 "Pathfinder" is a BSA Sea Scouting unit based at Rush Creek Yacht Club. For over a century, Sea Scouting has promoted better citizenship and improved members' boating skills through instruction and practice in water safety, seamanship, and maritime heritage.
The program is open to young men and women ages 14 through 20. No prior sailing experience is required — Ship 1000 welcomes sailors at every level and provides the instruction and mentorship to grow.
Program Activities
Water Safety
Foundational seamanship and water safety skills. Members learn to swim, handle emergencies, and operate vessels responsibly on the water.
Boating Skills
Hands-on instruction in sailing, navigation, and boat handling. Sea Scouts develop practical skills across multiple vessel types.
Outdoor Experiences
Camping, cruising, and on-water adventures that build confidence, self-reliance, and a love of the marine environment.
Service Projects
Community service with a maritime focus. Ships participate in waterway cleanups, safety education, and club support activities.
Social Activities
Regattas, cookouts, and ship gatherings that build lifelong friendships within the sailing community.
Maritime Heritage
Sea Scouts connect members to over a century of American maritime tradition, character development, and BSA values.
Join Ship 1000
Ages 14 to 20
Sea Scouts is co-ed and open to young adults ages 14 through 20. Membership in Ship 1000 gives access to the club's facilities, fleet, and the broader BSA Sea Scouting program including regional regattas and national events.
