MC Scow, PHRF

Jay grew up in Shreveport, Louisiana, where his father introduced him to sailing on a wooden Lightning and Catalina 22 at the Shreveport Yacht Club. As a junior sailor, he spent countless hours crewing for the club's experienced sailors, wishing the club would start a junior program.

Jay found his sailing team at Baylor University, where he became Commodore of the Baylor Sailing Team during his final two years. He led a revival of the program, along with fellow RCYC member Ryan Glaze, raising funds and purchasing five new Club 420s.

After college, Jay turned his focus to career and family, stepping away from sailing for nearly 20 years. His wife Tricia, tired of hearing his sailing stories, eventually pushed him back to the water. Jay and Tricia joined RCYC in 2018 and Jay purchased an MC Scow. He quickly became one of the fleet's most active members, traveling regularly to race MCs across the country and crewing for members and non-members alike.

Jay's son J.R. races Optimists on the TSA circuit. His daughter Alice is a familiar face at the club.
